Abstract

The article aims to outline a history of the studies on medieval Arabic philosophy to find the different approaches used by scholars. The first part presents the 19th century Orientalists' school and the developments of historiography until the present day. The last part shows the connections between the old school approach and the Endress-Gutas' perspective through the critical observations on the Islamic thought raised by Renan and Corbin still important today.
