Abstract

The article analyzes the historic significance of Francisco de Miranda's journals regarding his passage through the Holy Germanic Roman Empire. After briefly positioning Miranda in historiography, it describes his early German route of early liberalism, which is particularly relevant to current studies of cultural and social history. It focuses on the experiences of daily life, transcultural processes and the transfer of knowledge between multiple centers/peripheries. These trips decisively nourished the Mirandian concept of Colombeia at the service of the emancipation of Spanish America. This analysis approach is innovative, since previously Miranda had only been discussed in biographical and testimonial terms.
