Abstract

Hopf's Boundary Point Lemma and the Krein-Rutman Theorem combine to a strong tool for second order elliptic boundary value problems on smooth domains. We show an example of a domain where this combination cannot be used. Moreover we recall some generalisations of both results, that seem to be known to the specialists but which are also hardly traceable in the literature. Several examples illustrate the optimal results.
