Abstract

Felsgesteingeräte wie Beile, Äxte und Mahlsteine stellen eine von ihrer Menge her wichtige Materialgruppe dar. In der vorliegenden Studie werden sie diachron vor allem hinsichtlich der Rohmaterialbeschaffung, Herstellung und Weitergabe betrachtet. Der zeitliche Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf dem Jung- und Spätneolithikum (Michelsberger Kultur und Wartbergkultur). Um das Material hinsichtlich der Fragestellung bearbeiten zu können, mussten die Funde in bestehende Typeneinteilungen eingeordnet bzw. im Falle der Beilklingen eine neue Typeneinteilung vorgenommen werden. Dadurch wird es möglich, auch viele der zahlreichen Einzelfunde mehr oder weniger sicher zu datieren. Großen Raum nimmt die Rohmaterialbestimmung ein. Für viele Artefakte können mögliche Herkunftsgebiete bestimmt werden. Auf dieser Grundlage werden die Versorgungsstrategien für Felsgesteinartefakte in ihrem soziokulturellen Kontext untersucht und diachron verglichen.

Groundstone artefacts like axes, shafthole axes and grinding stones are important tools in neolithic societies. The aim of this work is to compare the mechanisms of purchasing, processing and exchange of raw material of this tools in young and late neolithic times (Michelsberg and Wartberg Culture). The first step of this work is to classify the artefacts. Most artefacts could be classified with existing typologies. But for axe-blades a new classification is developed. This allows a good age determination even of many single finds. The extensive determination of the raw materials permits an identification of the origin of the used rocks for many artefacts. This allows to develop models of the different strategies of raw material supply in different social contexts in dependence of the different neolithic periods.
