Abstract

This dissertation elaborates in detail the scientific state of research on internationalisation in developing countries. It describes the challenges that internationalising companies can face during their internationalisation efforts into developing countries and proposes a new collaboration framework with regard to collaborations with non-governmental organisations (NGO), a prominent type of actor in developing countries. Whilst various generic challenges of internationalisation as well as special challenges for developing countries are to be portrayed at the beginning, a thorough delineation of multiple characteristics of developing countries follows. Afterwards the research on non-market strategies and the theory of embeddedness is being focused. Following the depiction of NGOs as an important actor in developing countries, a conceptual framework is derived. The framework proposes multiple interdependency effects arguing for different types of NGOs as potential collaboration partners for internationalising companies based on varying internationalisation challenges. The dissertation closes with a thorough discussion and delineation to the portrayed fields of research.
