Abstract

The aim of this paper is to find out whether versioning of digital editions is relevant for projects, which forms of versioning are used in practice and for whom and why versioning is used. In order to answer these questions, a quantitative inventory of digital editions that are versioned was made and their versioning strategies were examined in detail. The study of digital editions shows that versioning is not a marginal issue in the scholarly practice of editors. Every fourth edition project from the evaluated data set already implements forms of versioning.
