Abstract

This discussion paper explores teacher turnover in North Rhine-Westphalia from a resilience perspective. Based on a survey of 1,178 teachers, it analyzes how individual, team, and organizational resilience relate to teachers’ decisions to stay or leave the profession. Findings show that teachers who left report significantly lower resilience – especially in team support, optimism, and organizational error culture. The study highlights the stabilizing role of team resilience and calls for structurally embedded collaboration to strengthen teacher retention and well-being.
