Abstract

Bei genauerer Betrachtung erhält das Narrativ des „Erinnerungsweltmeisters“ Deutschlands vor dem Hintergrund der (post-)migrantischen Gesellschaft Risse. In der Bundesrepublik, dem Nachfolgestaat des NS-Regimes, wird die institutionalisierte Erinnerungskultur auch als Trennlinie für (Nicht-) Zugehörigkeit instrumentalisiert. In Anbetracht dieser Kontinui-täten von Macht- und Unterdrückungsmechanismen wird in dieser Arbeit die deutsche Erin-nerungskultur mithilfe Michael Rothbergs Konzept der „Multidirektionalen Erinnerung“ beleuchtet. Das Konzept stellt verflechtungsgeschichtliche Perspektiven und die wechselsei-tige Bezugnahme von Erinnerungen in den Vordergrund, die zu Solidarität statt Konkurrenz zwischen verschiedenen Erinnerungsgemeinschaften führen sollen. Im Rahmen einer quali-tativen Inhaltsanalyse von Interviews mit Akteuren aus der institutionalisierten Erinne-rungsarbeit in Köln und Duisburg werden Möglichkeiten und Grenzen einer multiperspekti-vischen Öffnung hinsichtlich pluraler Erinnerungen in der Migrationsgesellschaft unter-sucht. Die Studie legt die Begrenzung der Institutionen durch ihre ökonomische und politi-sche Eingebundenheit offen und verdeutlicht gleichzeitig die Bereitschaft der Akteure für die Implementierung multidirektionaler Erinnerung, insbesondere in Verbindung mit lokal-geschichtlicher Verortung in der jeweiligen Stadt.

Translated abstract:	Abstract Language Upon closer inspection, the narrative of Germany as the “world champion of remembrance” begins to crumble against the background of its (post-)migrant society. In the Federal Re-public, the successor state to the Nazi regime, institutionalized memory culture is instru-mentalized as a dividing line for social exclusion regarding “memory citizenship”. Consid-ering the continuities of these power and oppression mechanisms, this work examines the German culture of remembrance in reference to Michael Rothberg's concept of “multidirec-tional memory”. This concept focuses on perspectives of intertwined history and the cross-referencing of memories and is aiming for solidarity rather than competition between differ-ent communities and their collective memories. This study explores the possibilities and limits of a multi-perspective opening regarding pluralistic memories in the migratory socie-ty by examining interviews with key figures of institutions in the field of the German memory culture in Cologne and Duisburg through qualitative content analysis. This work reveals the limitations of institutions due to their economic and political ties and, at the same time, highlights the willingness of the interviewed actors to implement multidirection-al memory in their work, especially in relation to the locatedness of memories in the re-spected cities.
