Abstract
The purpose of this brief paper is to provide a starting point for further development and analysis of linguistic science by pointing out its link to Luhmann's general systems theory. Without a doubt, considerable research work has been conducted in this field and different approaches have been applied already, still leaving room, however, for suggesting a somewhat innovative contribution of a broad-brush nature which could give rise to new lines of research relating to this area.
