Between January 2008 and March 2010, the project „setup of an internet-based portal for larger stocks of digitalised charters of the South German region“, which was sponsored by the „Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft“ (DFG), was implemented at the Bavarian main state archives in Munich. The outcomes and experiences resulting from this project (short „Urkundenportal“ – „Charter’ s portal“) will be in the focus of the article. It begins with the aim of the project, which consisted in the digitalisation of the charter stocks of 28 clerical institutions such as monasteries, priories, dioceses and bishoprics within the mentioned region. In the following passage, the personal situation of the project will be outlined. Afterwards, the work steps within the archive will shortly be treated: the work on the already existing metadata as well as the creation of new metadata by the project’ s employees. The gained experiences concerning for example the variations of shape, in which these metadata existed, are presented in a short paragraph, followed by a short glimpse on the efforts made on public relations for the project: It was advertised by a small brochure distributed in archives and libraries, on conferences and by the linking with other websites of this field. The advertising has turned out to be quite successful. As a result of the project, the charters digitalised are to be considered here, of course. At the moment, there are 16 000 charters of the Bavarian main state archives online, with image and metadata. By the end of 2010, it will reach the number of 30 000. The DFG has classed the project to be „successful“.English
