Abstract

Diogenes of Oinoanda published in his old age, probably in the early second century CE, a huge Greek inscription on the wall of a stoa in his Lycian native city. Seven inscribed courses of stone presented treatises on Epicurean physics and ethics, letters of Diogenes himself and (allegedly) of Epicurus, philosophical maxims, and defense of old age. The three hundred known fragments are a unique source of Epicureanism in Roman times.
