Abstract

This thesis explores the use of high-intensity terahertz (THz) pulses to uncover new physical phenomena in various materials. It investigates the nonlinear conductivity of the transition metal oxide (Sr,Ca)RuO3, revealing strong third harmonic generation linked to electron transport and heavy quasiparticles. In the superconductor MgB2, THz pulses probe the elusive Higgs mode using harmonic generation in magnetic fields. The ferrimagnetic garnet (Gd,Bi)3Fe5O12 displays tunable magnetization dynamics influenced by cavity effects and Zeeman torque. These findings enhance our understanding of THz spectroscopy and its applications in material science.
