Abstract

Chapter one and two of this thesis present the results of lab-in-the field experiments conducted with children and in kindergarten. While chapter one proposes family background as one explanatory variable for differing levels of cooperation. Chapter two focuses on diligence and its development during early childhood. In contrast, chapter three and four of this thesis present the results of traditional laboratory experiments conducted with a standard subject pool of students. Chapter three focuses on conditional dishonesty, namely on people’s tendency to be dishonest if others are so too. Finally, chapter four shows that assuming responsibility for one’s own work environment to be ethical might serve as a non-pecuniary incentive to increase workers’ motivation and performance.
