The paper presents the DFG funded project „Online-Urkundenedition des Stiftsarchivs der Reichsabtei Fulda (751–1837)“ (online charter edition of the Stiftsarchiv of Reichsabtei Fulda 751–1837). In July 2010, after two years work the project could present 2.435 full descriptions of the charters („Vollregesten“) via the archival database HADIS. The project included high quality images of front and back of each charter and of all seals. The Hessian State Archive as project responsible continuously corrects errors and adds links to other online representations of the material. Links to the Regesta Imperii Online and the Inventory of images of European souvereign charters are already implemented. The description includes a wide range of information: all relevant juridical content, the date in the original and a normalised form, witnesses, signatures and seals, other archival documentation of the texts, modern bibliography in the main series as the Monumenta Germaniae Historica or the Regesta Imperii, references to similar documents in the collection and a physical description. An index of modernised names of places and persons enhances the research facilities. The paper includes a discussion of the relevance of the archival fond for historical research of various kind emphasizing the importance of the abbey for the early medieval empire but pointing at the remaining importance in the regional context even in early modern times.English
