Abstract

| Translated abstract: | Abstract Language “K-APAT” stands for Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy in the Cologne Metropolitan Region and is the first prospective study on OPAT in Germany.
Unlike in numerous countries, where outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) has already been an established outpatient treatment option for many years, the administration of intravenous anti-infective agents in Germany is currently generally carried out in an inpatient setting.
This outpatient treatment approach addresses the growing healthcare policy challenges in Germany and represents a significant turning point in the German healthcare system, with the aim of promoting a greater shift toward outpatient care.
The systematically collected data on OPAT in the Cologne region enabled a differentiated evaluation of the feasibility, demand, treatment outcomes, and safety of this treatment approach under the current framework conditions of the German healthcare system.
At the same time, the study results can serve as a basis for a model implementation at the national level. UNSPECIFIED |
