Abstract
Textual scholarship could be defined as the process, which try to clarify how and why a text may have changed by the passage of time. Textual scholarships try also to restore the 'original' text, that should be understood as the text as intended by the author. On the other side, serendipity has been defined (Oxford Dictionaries) as the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way. Starting from an analysis of the methods of textual criticism, in this article argues that serendipity - as defined - is not possible in this discipline, because these methods condition from the beginning the textual 'solutions' that can be 'found'.
