Description générale de l'oniyan.
PhD thesis, Universität zu Köln.
Abstract

This book presents a general description and socio-cultural study of the Oniyan language. Better known under the name Bassari, the language forms part of the broader Atlantic Niger-Congo group. In Senegal, Oniyan is spoken in the Southeast, more specifically in the regions of Kedougou and Tambacounda.
While it is true that some studies concerning the phonological, morphological and morphophonological domains of the language already exist, this contribution critically engages with these studies going beyond a mere description; that is to say it emphesizes the socio-cultural aspect of possession in oniyan through secret language, initiation and spirit possession.
The work includes eleven chapters, namely: (1) Introduction, (2) Phonology, (3) Morphophonology, (4) Nominal morphology, (5) Pronouns, (6) Verbal morphology, (7) Types of preaching, (8 ) Other grammatical categories and their syntactic roles, (9) Ideophones, (10) Topicalization and focusing and (11) Possession in Oniyan. | English |
