Abstract

The ophthalmic plastic surgeon lays the basis for successful rehabilitation with prosthetic eyes in advance of care by the ocularist. Anophthalmic patients receive the first ocular prosthesis as early as 2 weeks after enucleation. This trouble-free and quick care with a custom-made eye prosthesis following eye loss is essential from an esthetic point of view and facilitates a good occupational, social and psychological rehabilitation. In order to prevent complications that adversely affect the esthetic outcome, regular monitoring and, if necessary, early initiation of treatment by ophthalmologists are crucial.
