Since the beginning of the twentieth century the interest in the genesis of the Solitudes has been accompanied by the preparation of new editions of the text. Thanks to Damaso Alonso's pioneering work it was known that the First Solitude was disseminated in 1613 among a few friends of Gongora; it was, however, not identical to the text that don Antonio Chacon y Ponce de Leon offered to the Count Duke of Olivares in 1628. After reviewing the genetic process of the Solitudes in the light of modern editions and manuscripts, this article aims, first, to describe the manuscript 2056 of the National Library of Catalonia from a bibliographic view; second, to analyze the copy of the Solitudes transmitted in this manuscript with a focus on scribal interventions and the relationships that can be established with other early manuscripts; and finally, to present six authorial variants of the Second Solitude that are heretofore unknown.
