Abstract

In 2014, the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) published new guidelines for the diagnosis and management of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Recently, a German translation of these pocket guidelines became available. This commentary aims to introduce some of the highlights, such as an increasing role of genetic diagnostics for HCM in clinical practise, a detailed discussion of imaging, and, in particular, a new algorithm for the risk stratification of sudden cardiac death. Finally, we provide an outlook on future developments and potential improvements in diagnostic and therapy of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
