Abstract

During a three week excavation in the summer of 2016 the ancillary building VII of the villa rustica Binger Wald was archaeologically investigated. In four trenches there were uncovered the remains of walls with externally placed hearths and a section of the courtyard's wall, which interlocked with the building. In the interior the collapsed, southern wall survived in situ. This feature allowed the reconstruction of the particular process of collapse and yielded a calculated minimal height for the structure of 4.68m. The cause of the wall's collapse can be assumed to have been a natural process of decay.
