Abstract
Forschungsarbeiten zur altägyptischen Wirtschaft konzentrieren sich in der Regel auf die Studie textlicher Quellen und großer Zeiträume und nur selten auf archäologische und/oder zeitlich begrenzte Studien. Die Folge ist oft ein „Generalisieren“ der altägyptischen Wirtschaft im Ganzen ohne Berücksichtigung einer möglichen Dynamik des wirtschaftlichen Outputs und deren Funktionsweise. Im Rahmen des Dissertationsprojekts sollen für eine Periode, das Mittlere Reich, und anhand ausgewählter Waren (Getreide, Türkis und Kupfer) Veränderungen bezüglich ihrer Produktion, Distribution und Konsumption untersucht werden. Durch Quantifizierung einzelner Aspekte ist es möglich, Dynamiken zu identifizieren und den Hintergrund der Wirtschaft des Mittleren Reichs zu analysieren.

| Translated abstract: | Abstract Language Research on Ancient Egyptian economy usually concentrates on written sources and the rich data for the New Kingdom. The combination of archaeological and philological data for economic research is uncommon in Egyptology.
The economy seems to be a very stable and constant part of the Ancient Egyptian society. This PhD project examines change in the production, distribution, and consumption of three different goods: grain, as staple food, copper, for objects of daily use, and turquoise, as luxury good. Using quantification and statistical methods and focusing on one single period, this study illustrates change and dynamics of the Middle Kingdom’s economy. English |
