Abstract

Der Dominikaner Johannes Mulberg war der erfolgreiche Hauptprotagonist im Basler Beginenstreit (1400-1414): Danach kehrten die frommen Frauen nie mehr nach Basel zurück. Sein Vorgehen kann nur im Kontext der frühen Ordensreform, der sogenannten Observanz verstanden werden. Da er in Beginen und Begarden gesunde Bettler („validi mendicantes“) sah, sollten sie arbeiten statt von Almosen zu leben. Betteln sollte nur den Bettelorden und den wahrhaft Bedürftigen zustehen. Dies belegt einen Wandel im Arbeits- und Armutsbegriff nach 1350. Mulberg gehörte neben Konrad von Preußen zu einem der wichtigsten Verfechter der frühen Ordensreform unter dem Generalmagister Raimund von Capua. Er hat seine Überlegungen detailliert in seinem „Tractatus contra Beginas et Beghardos“ festgehalten, der in dieser Arbeit zum ersten Mal ediert wurde.

Translated abstract:	Abstract Language The Dominican Johannes Mulberg was the successful protagonist of the Basel Beguine Controversy (1400-1414): After that, the pious women never returned to Basel. His actions can only be understood in the context of the Dominican Order’s early reform, the so-called Observance. Mulberg viewed beguines and beghards as healthy beggars ("validi mendicantes") and, therefore, they should work instead of living on alms. Begging was to be reserved for the mendicant orders and the truly needy. This proves a change in the concept of work and poverty after 1350. Along with Conrad of Prussia, Mulberg was one of the most important advocates of the early reform of the order under Raimund of Capua. He recorded his thoughts in detail in his "Tractatus contra Beginas et Beghardos", which has been edited for the first time in this work. English
