Abstract

The poetry of Enrique Lihn is characterized in many of his works by the experience of travelling. The poetic subject tries to collect his impressions of foreign cities and countries, but his mobile and fleeting view on the world leads to a very fragmented and heterogeneous poetical language. Besides, through the metaliterary auto-observation the subject is able to detect the differences between exterior mobility and inner immobility, which is directly connected with the mother tongue. Although Lihn's poetry seems to by travel literature, it breaks decidedly with the typical traditional discourses and topics of the travel narratives.
