Abstract

This thesis consists of three essays. The essays analyse investors' decisions with respect to exercising corporate and mutual fund governance. Specifically, this dissertation, first, focuses on the impact of competition from index and exchange traded funds (ETFs) on the performance-flow relation of actively managed mutual funds, second, analyses the role of societal trust on shareholders’ monitoring intensity and, third, investigates the influence of societal trust on the decision-making process in management teams.
