Abstract

Microscopic laser particles have emerged as a new type of intracellular probes for various biological and biomedical applications. Utilizing some of the unique properties of laser light, laser particles are formidable barcoding devices, can sense chemical and physical changes inside cells, and recently demonstrated biomechanical force measurements with unprecedented temporal resolution. Further developments are targeting the direct application of laser particles along high throughput sequencing techniques, as well as deep tissue sensing.
