Abstract

This thesis comprises four independent research articles that experimentally examine how the social environment affects human decision-making by investigating different dimensions of it. In particular, this thesis addresses (i) whether social cues such as age influence cooperative behavior of individual decision makers, (ii) if and how changing the decision environment from individual to group decision-making affects the psychic benefits, i.e. non-material benefits, of holding a decision right, and (iii) whether social information about peer income (as social reference points) affect the honesty of individual decision makers by triggering relative income concerns.
