Abstract

Background. The German Consortium for Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer was founded more than 20 years ago with the support of the German Cancer Aid. Since then, the aim of the network of specialized centers has been to provide comprehensive care for families with a hereditary burden for gynecological cancers. These services range from risk identification and genetic diagnostics to the development of risk-adapted prevention and targeted therapy concepts. Objective. In recent years, hardly any other medical sector has developed as rapidly as molecular genetic diagnostics in oncology. Results. The consortium is meeting these associated challenges, particularly with regard to translation into the clinic, with innovative and future-oriented developments.
