Abstract

Background: A German Questionnaire for maintaining components of social anxiety in children and adolescents (Fragebogen zur Erfassung storungsaufrechterhaltender Komponenten sozialer Angst bei Kindern und Jugendlichen; FESKA) addresses cognitive, behavioral, and interactional components of social anxiety in children and adolescents aged 4-14 years. Objective: To analyze the FESKA as rated by parents (n = 259) and patients (n = 159) in a combined clinical and field sample. Method: Factorial validity, reliability, and aspects of convergent and divergent validity were analyzed. Results: Confirmatory factor analyses confirmed the hypothetical three-factor model. The total scales and subscales showed satisfactory internal consistencies. However, the test retest reliability was limited. The cross-informant correlations were lower than expected. Convergent validity can be confirmed in parent and patients ratings. Conclusion: Notwithstanding several limitations, the FESKA can be used in practice and research as a sufficiently reliable and valid instrument.
