Abstract

Posttraumatic contractures of the hand can have several causes. On the one hand the initial injury may entail severe structural tissue damage; on the other hand inappropriate posttraumatic treatment or immobilisation may promote or may be responsible for stiffness. Proper treatment planning and communication with physiotherapists and the patient are crucial because both conservative and surgical treatment depend on complex and demanding treatment regimes.
