Abstract

The present essay analizes the forms and functions of dance in the dramatic ceuvre of Federico Garcia Lorca. In a quantifiable way, there are twelve plays which broach explicitly the issue of dance. The qualitative evaluation for this study is based on theories like the intermediality, the perfomativity and the gender studies. With this foundation, we will observe how dance is articulated in the texts of the author. On the one hand, we will see that the rhythm of the dances is translated by a lyric form of the text. On the other hand, we will discover that dance in Federico Garcia Lorca's plays can be considered as a presentation of gender issues, not only in a patriarchial binary system between men and women, but also in a heteronormative way.
