Abstract

The relationship between voice-related quality of life (VQOL) and sociodemographic and transition characteristics in trans women (male-to-female) are not well understood, in particular in German-speaking countries. Using an online survey, data on VQOL based on the TVQMtF and perceived voice femininity were collected as well as data on sociodemographic and transition characteristics. Data sets of 127 trans women were analyzed with correlation and regression analyses. A significant predictor for VQOL was a completed gender reassignment surgery. With regard to perceived voice femininity, the predictive variables also contained completed voice feminization surgery. Overall, the results indicated a higher VQOL when transition was in the advanced stages. So, in voice training for trans women, the influence of the entire transition on the outcome should be taken into account.
