Abstract

Nuclear-structure studies with reaccelerated radioactive ion beams at the ISOLDE facility, CERN commenced with the REX-ISOLDE facility and continued after a major upgrade of the facility with the HIE-ISOLDE post-accelerator. The experiments are based on in-beam high-resolution gamma-ray spectroscopy with Miniball, a spectrometer which comprises 24 six-fold segmented, encapsulated high-purity germanium crystals. The Miniball array has been used in Coulomb excitation and transfer-reaction experiments with exotic ion beams of energies up to 10 MeV/u. The investigations cover a wide range of nuclear structure topics which are addressed with beams ranging from beryllium up to heavy radium isotopes. Experimental conditions improved substantially after commissioning of the HIE-ISOLDE project at CERN with higher secondary-beam intensity, higher beam energy and better beam quality. We review the spectroscopy achievements obtained at REX-ISOLDE and first published results from HIE-ISOLDE. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
