Abstract
This paper reconstructs the interpretation of parenting practices from the perspective of adolescent educands. The data basis for the analysis consists of thirty-six qualitative interviews with young prisoners which will be examined with a particular focus on following questions: How do the young men make sense of the experienced parenting practices and how do they position themselves to this? In their interpretations, do they reproduce aspects of social inequality or do they indicate signs of a biographical reorientation? Results show that four interpretive schemes of parenting practices can be differentiated; each indicating a different potential of dissociation from their social background.
