Abstract

Internationalization and diversity management are among the most prominent, often complementary, key areas of higher education policies, meant to broadcast an institution's appeal and innovative capacity against the backdrop of globalization and expanded access to tertiary education. The rationale and the impact of internationalization and diversity policies are shaped to a large extent by the OECD and by the European Commission. In this paper, phases of the debate on internationalization and diversity management will be retraced. The practical implementation of the educational agenda of these closely linked fields is presently at different stages of development. In order to advance while maintaining a critical perspective of these continuing processes and discourses, empirical research addressing the practices and viewpoints of both students and faculty is particularly crucial.
