Abstract

Gesellenbruderschaften waren ein zentrales Element im Emanzipationsprozess von nichtselbständigen Handwerkern, denen ein hohes Identifikations- und Abgrenzungspotential innewohnte, wie auch den Gesellentrinkstuben. Aufgaben wie das persönliche Seelenheil und das Totengedenken wurde nicht länger ausschließlich dem Klerus anvertraut; ebenso hing eine soziale Mindest-Absicherung im Fall von Tod oder Krankheit nicht mehr ausschließlich von der Gnade eines „Herrn“ ab.

Translated abstract:	Abstract Language Journeymen's confraternities were a central element in the emancipation process of employed craftsmen. Confraternities as well as journeymen's drinking and meeting taverns (“Trinkstube”) had a high potential for identification and demarcation . Tasks such as the personal salvation and the commemoration of the dead were no longer consigned exclusively to the clergy. Likewise, minimum social security in the event of death or illness no longer depended exclusively on the grace of the "lord". English
