Abstract

Transcatheter treatment of mitral and tricuspid regurgitation is an established option for patients deemed to be at high surgical risk. Next-generation devices and accumulated evidence of its safety and efficacy have made leaflet-based treatment a recommended therapy for primary and secondary mitral regurgitation in the most recent guidelines of the American College of Cardiology. In addition to leaflet-based devices, which have been used for several years, direct annuloplasty and transcatheter valve replacement are other available options. Major interest lies now in identification of predictive factors to improve patient quality of life and long-term-prognosis. Transcatheter treatment of the tricuspid valve is still in its early stages. However, leaflet-based devices as well as systems for direct annuloplasty have received CE marks. Evidence on safety and efficacy is growing and also data on postinterventional symptomatic improvement of patients is promising.
