Abstract

This article in the journal Group. Interaction. Organization. (GIO) aims to identify social mechanisms that explain the occurrence and the dynamics of internal school collaboration. These mechanisms will also be systematized based on the question of which theoretical implications of cooperation-specific sociality and thus to the working relationships between teachers can be seen. The systematization based on existing conceptualizations and approaches as well as current findings of the research field. In the meantime, numerous research papers on the collaboration of teachers within the school as educational organization are available. In this context, collaboration is viewed as a key category in connection with questions of school quality, school development and school management, based on a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches. In view of the increasing differentiation of the internal structure of schools as well as the claimed expansion of teachers' areas of responsibility, the article concludes by showing how design-related specifications of the findings on teachers' cooperative working relationships can be derived facing the current changes of schools.
