Abstract

Zwischen 1970 und 1977 nahm ein Team aus Anthropologen und Linguisten von der Université de La Réunion, Michel Carayol, Christian Barat und Claude Vogel etliche Geschichtenerzähler*innen an 14 verschiedenen Orten der Insel auf Tonband auf. Einige weitere Aufnahmen erstellte der Kreolist Robert Chaudenson. Für die Dissertation „Die kreolische Oralliteratur von La Réunion“ wurde dieses Korpus aus insgesamt 132 Geschichten digitalisiert. Anhand dieser einzigartigen Sammlung widmet sich die Forschungsarbeit in einem texthistorisch-vergleichenden Ansatz zwei Kernfragen der kreolistischen Folkloristik: einerseits der Herkunftsbestimmung kreolsprachiger Erzähltraditionen der Insel und andererseits der Interpretationsmöglichkeiten oraler Texte im Lichte der kolonialen Geschichte bzw. der dekolonialen Bestrebungen der gegenwärtigen Gesellschaft. In der Forschung wurde oftmals entweder eine afrikanische oder eine festlandfranzösische Herkunft der gesamten kreolsprachigen Oralliteratur postuliert. Dabei stützten sich die Forscher*innen bisher zu wenig auf empirische Daten und ließen sich häufig von ideologischer oder politischer Motivation beeinflussen. Deshalb nimmt sich die Dissertation einer detaillierten Untersuchung der Provenienz zweier réunionesischer Erzähltypen an. Der zweite Schwerpunkt beleuchtet die Interpretation der Erzähltradition kritisch. Ob koloniale oder kontemporäre Autor*innen, die kreolophonen Traditionsträger*innen werden oftmals als homogenes Kollektiv mit bestimmten Charaktereigenschaften zusammengefasst. An so widersprüchlichen Interpretationen – von Fatalismus und Autoritätshörigkeit bis hin zu Widerstandsgeist und Débrouillardise – zeigt sich, wie vielen unterschiedlichen Deutungen Oralliteratur eine Projektionsfläche bieten kann.

Translated abstract:	Abstract Language Between 1970 and 1977, a team of anthropologists and linguists from the Université de La Réunion, Michel Carayol, Christian Barat and Claude Vogel made tape recordings of a number of storytellers in 14 different places on the island, creolist Robert Chaudenson produced some other recordings. This corpus of 132 tales was digitized for the dissertation "The creole-laguage oral literature of Reunion Island". Based on this unique collection, the research work takes a comparative text-historical approach to two core questions of Creole folkloristics: on the one hand, the identification of the origins of Creole-language narrative traditions on the island and, on the other, the possible interpretations of oral texts in the light of colonial history and the decolonial aspirations of contemporary society. Previous research has often postulated either an African or a mainland French origin for all Creole-language oral literature. However, researchers have so far relied too little on empirical data and have often been influenced by ideological or political motivation. This dissertation therefore undertakes a detailed examination of the provenance of two Réunionese tale types. A second focus critically examines the interpretation of the Creole-language narrative tradition. Whether colonial or contemporary authors, the bearers of tradition are often lumped together as a homogeneous collective with certain character traits. Such contradictory interpretations - from fatalism and authoritarianism to the spirit of resistance and débrouillardise - show how many different interpretations oral literature can offer a projection surface. English Entre 1970 et 1977, une équipe d'anthropologues et de linguistes de l'Université de La Réunion, Michel Carayol, Christian Barat et Claude Vogel, a enregistré sur bande magnétique de nombreux conteurs et conteuses dans 14 endroits différents de l'île. Quelques autres enregistrements ont été réalisés par le créoliste Robert Chaudenson. Ce corpus de 132 contes a été numérisé pour la thèse "La littérature orale créolophone de La Réunion". Sur la base de cette collection unique, le travail de recherche se consacre, dans une approche text-historique et comparatiste, à deux questions clés du folklore créoliste : d'une part, la recherche de l'origine des traditions narratives créolophones de l'île et, d'autre part, les possibilités d'interprétation des textes oraux à la lumière de l'histoire coloniale ou des aspirations décoloniales de la société contemporaine. Jusqu'à présent, la recherche a souvent postulé soit une origine africaine, soit une origine française continentale de l'ensemble de la littérature orale en créole. Jusqu'à présent, les chercheurs ne se sont pas suffisamment appuyés sur des données empiriques et se sont souvent laissés influencer par des motivations idéologiques ou politiques. C'est pourquoi la thèse entreprend une étude détaillée de la provenance de deux contes-types largement diffusés à La Réunion. Le second focus apporte un regard critique sur l'interprétation de la tradition narrative. Qu'il s'agisse d'auteurs coloniaux ou contemporains, les porteurs de la tradition créolophone sont souvent considérés comme un collectif homogène présentant des traits de caractère spécifiques. Des interprétations aussi contradictoires - du fatalisme et du respect de l'autorité à l'esprit de résistance et à la débrouillardise - montrent à quel point la littérature orale peut offrir une surface de projection à de nombreuses interprétations différentes.
