The research on dyscalculia, a learning disorder in the field of numbers and equations, has until now been almost exclusively in the hands of cognitive psychology, leading to the impression that it is primarily a cognitive partial learning disorder. The problems in the field of emotions and relationships that accompany dyscalculia are then usually seen to be secondary to the cognitive disorder. In the following paper, four cases of dyscalculia are presented from a psychoanalytic point of view The essential connection between the weakness in dealing with numbers and the emotional meaning that numbers have taken on in the course of the life history of the individual is shown. Finally, some theoretical points are added in order to make connections to psychoanalytic thinking in general.
