Abstract

The present dissertation deals with investigations on the oxidative properties of perfluoroorgano silver compounds, AgRf (Rf : C5F4N, C2F3, C2F5, n-C3F7, n-C4F9), towards elements of groups 12 to 16. The expected perfluoroorgano element compounds, E(Rf)n, and the corresponding silver derivatives prepared from trimethy(perfluoroorgano)silanes and silver(I) fluoride should be isolated and, if possible, studied by XRD methods. AgC2F5 and AgC5F4N derivatives were isolated for the first time as [PNP][Ag(C2F5)2] (1) and [PNP][Ag(C5F4N)2] (2) and their structures elucidated by X-ray structure determinations. AgC2F3 was prepared for the first time and characterized by NMR spectroscopic and mass spectrometric means. The reaction of AgC6F5 and [PNP]Cl led to the fluorine-free argentate, [PNP][Ag2Cl4] (X-ray structure) and not to the expected salt, [PNP][Ag(C6F5)2]. As in all structures of perfluoroorgano silver compounds described so far, silver atoms in the anions [Ag(C2F5)2]- and [Ag(C5F4N)2]- are nearly linear co-ordinated with characteristic Ag-C bond lengths. Reactions of AgRf (Rf : C2F5, n-C3F7, n-C4F9) with elemental tin yielded instead of the expected homoleptic tin(IV) compounds, novel derivatives of the postulated composition AgSn(Rf)3 or Ag[Ag(Sn(Rf)3)2]. With Rf : C5F4N this intermediate was converted into Sn(C5F4N)4 (4) via pyrolysis. Consecutive reactions of AgSn(Rf)3 (Rf : C2F5, n-C4F9) with Hg gave Hg[Sn(Rf)3]2 which was characterized definitely by 19F, 199Hg and 119Sn NMR spectroscopic means. Further reactions of AgC5F4N with elements of groups 12 to 16 yielded the following 4-tetrafluoropyridyl element compounds which were extensively chracterized: Hg(C5F4N)2 (5), Ga(C5F4N)3(EtCN)(H2O) (6), In(C5F4N)3(EtCN)2 (7), E(C5F4N)3 (E : As (8), Sb, Bi), Se(C5F4N)2 (9), Te(C5F4N)2 (10), Se(C5F4N)2(dmso) (11), Te(C5F4N)2(dmso) (12) and Te(C5F4N)2(tmtu) (13). The molecular structures of (4) to (13) are described and compared with those of the homologue C6F5 derivatives known from the literature. The influence of the more electronegative C5F4N ligand as well as its free coordination site at the N-atom on the bonding situation and the stability of these compounds is discussed.English
